At Mtn Green Animal Hospital, vaccines are given during a wellness visit, and that is deliberate. Every vaccination appointment begins with a thorough physical examination: our veterinarians check your pet from nose to tail, including eyes, ears, mouth, heart, lungs, abdomen, skin, and joints, and review their medical history to determine the best vaccine plan for them.

This approach helps confirm your pet is healthy enough for vaccines and gives us the chance to catch early signs of illness. It is also your time to ask about behavior, appetite, nutrition, weight, or parasite prevention. Your veterinarian takes the time the visit needs.

Vaccines are given during your pet’s Wellness visit, so the exam above covers the doctor’s evaluation and the prices below are what each vaccine adds to the visit.

Rabies (Dogs and Cats)

Whether a 1-year or 3-year rabies vaccine is appropriate depends on your pet’s age, previous vaccination history, vaccine eligibility, and applicable requirements, so a first-time rabies vaccine cannot always be given as a 3-year dose.

FeLV protection is particularly recommended for outdoor cats, indoor and outdoor cats, and cats that may encounter unknown cats.

If your pet has never received a particular vaccine before, a booster may be needed after the first dose to build appropriate immunity. Your veterinarian will recommend the schedule based on your pet’s age and vaccine history.

Not every vaccine here is right for every pet. Your veterinarian will recommend a plan based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, environment, and exposure risk.

What Each Vaccine Protects Your Pet From

Rabies

Rabies is a viral disease of the nervous system that is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, and it can spread to people through bites. Vaccination is required by law for dogs and cats in Utah. The vaccine teaches your pet's immune system to stop the virus before it can take hold, protecting your pet, your family, and the wildlife-rich community around us.

DHPP

This combination vaccine covers four serious dog diseases: distemper, hepatitis (adenovirus), parvovirus, and parainfluenza. Parvo deserves special mention because it causes severe vomiting and diarrhea, is often fatal in unvaccinated puppies, and survives in soil and on surfaces for a long time. Distemper attacks the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems and has no cure. Vaccination is the reliable protection against both.

Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection spread through the urine of wildlife, often picked up from standing water, puddles, and damp ground. It can cause serious kidney and liver damage, and it is one of the few pet diseases that can also infect people. With the deer, elk, and other wildlife around Morgan County, dogs that hike, swim, or simply sniff around the yard have real exposure. DHPPL is the same core combination as DHPP with leptospirosis coverage built in.

Bordetella

Bordetella is the main culprit behind kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory infection that spreads wherever dogs gather: boarding, grooming, daycare, training classes, and dog parks. It usually causes a harsh, honking cough, and in puppies and older dogs it can progress to pneumonia. Many boarding and grooming facilities require this vaccine.

Rattlesnake Vaccine

Utah's foothills and trails are rattlesnake country, and curious dogs are usually struck on the nose or face. This vaccine is intended to reduce the severity of a bite reaction and buy valuable time to reach veterinary care. FVRCP

FVRCP protects cats against three widespread viruses: feline viral rhinotracheitis and calicivirus, the two main causes of severe upper respiratory infections, and panleukopenia, a relative of parvovirus that is frequently fatal in kittens. These viruses are hardy and common enough that even indoor cats can be exposed.

Feline Leukemia (FeLV)

Feline leukemia virus spreads through close contact between cats, including mutual grooming and shared bowls. It weakens the immune system over time and can lead to anemia and certain cancers, and there is no cure once a cat is infected. Protection matters most for kittens and for cats who go outdoors or meet cats whose health status is unknown.
